I saw the latest Bridget Jones on Sunday at a 5pm showing, which was busy and people seemed to be enjoying it. I wasn't as into it as my companions – I'm not sure why, but I just don't quite "click" with Bridget. I find the humour a bit too "set piece", though there were some subtle and touching moments.
I watched the movie Lee last night, starring Kate Winslet (about Lee Miller, focusing on her war photography years), and that was fantastic. I'm surprised that's not up for more awards. (I think the timing would make it eligible this year.) Have you seen it? (Sorry if you've already mentioned somewhere and I missed it.)
It's just because I usually do these roundups every two weeks but I've left it too long!
I was telling someone today that the first time I watched the new Bridget Jones it left me a bit meh, but yesterday I saw it again and I cried and found it more endearing. Maybe I was more receptive the second time.
Yes, I saw Lee when it came out and agree: it's such a brilliant film and Kate Winslet is fantastic in it. It was a bit formulaic but I thought that wasn't particularly bad as not many people (including me) are familiar with the work of Lee Miller beyond her role as muse for Man Ray and the storyline really highlighted her extraordinary career as war photographer. Also loved how the story was told from the point of view of her son.
Absolutely. Lee showed me the part of Lee Miller's life that I had no idea about and I loved the way it unfolded. She was prepared to go beyond what was safe, both in her photography and her life. Huge admiration for her. Great movie, great cast, too.
My Bill Nighy is actually Michael Caine (have bumped into him 3 times but never had the courage to say anything to him!). Really want to watch I'm Still Here and Conclave soon. And you know I am completely with you in my frustration about Dune 2 (he's been robbed before the prize has even been given out).
Michael Caine is another fine gentleman, lucky you! I admire people who gather up the courage to say hi when they spot a celebrity. I freeze and giggle, that's only I'm capable of 😅 I'm Still Here left me shaken. It's a story that unfortunately has happened to many people in the world and it is a timely release at a time of global political instability. And Ralph Fiennes is decidely very fienne (I couldn't help it) in Conclave.
Wow, you have been busy, Cristina!

Fully agree, like you I'm surprised it didn't receive more recognition.
I very much enjoyed the Huzzahs!
Huzzah to that!
