Dear readers,
I wasn’t really planning to post anything for Saint Valentine’s day, but if there’s an excuse to talk about music, I’ll come up with something to justify it.
If you’re a regular reader you should know by now there are no editorial guidelines on this publication other than whatever I feel like writing about whenever I can find the time and motivation for it. That’s not too bad, actually.
Excuse me, I digress.
Rest assured this isn’t my usual 20-minute long post, but something rather short and sweet, like Sabrina Carpenter.
However, if you are in the mood for reading about love, you may want to revisit, or read for the first time since there are many new Abroaders (not sure this sounds right but it’s too late, I’ve already typed it), why we all obsess at some point in our lives about meeting the one.
As one of my goals writing in English is to share things I love in other languages this playlist is no different, but worry not. Marvin Gaye and Barry White are very much present here. How could they not when they’re both contributed to spikes in natality rates over decades with their music?
And of course, how could I not add The Struts? Or Franz Ferdinand’s Do You Want To with that deliciously cheek-in-tongue opening verse and fantastic music video to go with? You can take the girl out of mischief, but you can’t take mischief out of the girl.
Without any further ado, here are some love/lust/loss/longing-adjacent songs to cater to all love lives. Feel free to share additional songs in the comments. I need to expand my musical horizons.
Enjoy it!
Abroad is an independent publication about London, living in between cultures, languages, books, music, films, creativity, and being human in the age of artificial intelligence.
