Must catch up on Bridgerton, watch Frankenstein and look forward to Wuthering Heights. Fantastically entertaining and absorbing writing once more Cristina, thank you

You’re very welcome! Frankenstein was an unexpected hit with me and it is a career-defining role for Elordi. Hope you enjoy it when you get around seeing it.

Popping back, Cristina, to say that I was so moved by Frankenstein, which I saw on Netflix a couple of nights ago. Thanks for effusing about it, which was one of my prompts to watch sharpish. Agree about Jacob Elordi – he brought such beauty and pathos to the role of the "monster". I didn't recognise him from Saltburn, which is of course the sign of a good actor. Not just the prosthetics but everything about his demeanour was different. I didn't think he was bad in Saltburn, mind you – he played entitled posh British totty perfectly, I thought. Looking forward to Wuthering Heights now!

I didn't like Nosferatu, though. Finally got round to watching it a couple of weeks ago and found it too hammy. Didn't grab me at all. But hey! The world would be very boring if we agreed on everything!

That's fantastic to hear, Wendy! I am not a big fan of horror/terror and haven't watched any of Guillermo del Toro's films previously because of this reason. So I've been the first surprised by how much I enjoyed Frankenstein and in particular Elordi's performance.

I don't think he was bad per se in Saltburn, but he was given a script that did little for him as a character, or for me as a viewer. But I have recently learned that Guillermo del Toro casted Elordi based on this role so that's interesting. I hope Emerald Fennell now gives Elordi a fair chance to show us his acting chops in Wuthering Heights.

As for Nosferatu it was another wild card of a film for me this year, again probably because I was expecting not to like it and then I did. I credit that experience for having made me receptive to see Frankenstein

I decided to listen to your newsletter this morning and have been grinning away on the commute! Delighted at all the Bridgerton reminders - he really was brilliant in it - and also at the sneaky Andrew Scott mention (who is a very worthy reference in a post with this title!). Very intrigued to see Frankenstein now, too.

Oh, how funny! I assume the jokes land as well when told out loud : )

Andrew Scott is such a brilliant actor! I still get chills remembering him in Sherlock. He was a great Moriarty.

I think Frankenstein is also going to be available on Netflix at some point and while I'm not a fan of horror/terror, I decided to go because Christoph Waltz has a small part in it. I'm glad I took the plunge (although I had to look away a few times 🫣

All the joy here! 😂 JB is a very worthy winner—huge fan too! He had the all important Bridgerton role of signalling from the get-go this was no polite regency romp by gamely diving up an opera singer’s skirts while the fam were getting ready for court! And then season 2 🔥🔥🔥 Rege-Jean who now??

Also loved his cameo in Heartstopper ❤️ He was a huge fan from the first series and when he found his way into season three both the boys were giddy for him! 😂

Looking forward to Frankenstein as I always feel a little underwhelmed by Elordi’s acting. Priscilla better. But so often feel like he doesn’t quite connect somehow.

I'm very excited for Benedict's season and I hope we will be satisfied, but writing this I was thinking about how amazing Season 2 was, in great part thanks to Jonathan's and Simone's performances. Fingers crossed for January!!!

Like you, I barely remember Rege-Jean now which is crazy as he was the bait that got so many of us into watching this show 😂

True he seemed really happy to be in Heartstopper, although I hoped he'd had a bigger part. But still good to see him.

Good to know Priscilla may not be as terrible as I thought. I am not a big Jacob Elordi fan but something clicked watching him in Frankenstein and I thought of exploring more of his work. Maybe not Saltburn 😂

Yes, I can't wait for Benedict's season too. We will have to discuss it in great detail in the annoying break in the middle!

I can see the way you describing the Monster in his portrayal of Elvis. He was like a dark fairytale character (that worked for me with his height too, which I know people were a bit grumpy about), but there's also this vulnerability too. Look forward to hearing what you think. From what I gather he's quite the deep-thinking, introverted guy, but in some roles he just seems too removed.

Will definitely watch Priscilla as this sounds like I may also enjoy his performance there. Can't be too bad 🤞
